Why Suerte Tequila’s Production Journey Matters
At Suerte Tequila, we believe that every bottle tells a story—a story of tradition, community, and a relentless pursuit of quality. From the rolling agave fields of Jalisco to the final pour in your glass, our journey is about more than just making tequila. It’s about honoring the land, supporting the people who make our craft possible, and creating moments of good fortune to share.
“With Buena Suerte to You, our mission is simple: support the communities where we live, work, and play by turning good fortune into meaningful change.” This isn’t just a slogan for us—it’s the heart of what we do. We’re proud to have total control over our production process, from cultivating our own agave to bottling every drop, ensuring each bottle lives up to the standards we set for ourselves and our community.
If you’re curious about what makes Suerte Tequila production truly unique, or you’re searching for a tequila-making process rooted in heritage and sustainability, you’re in the right place. Let’s take a journey—agave to glass—together.
Cultivating Excellence – Our Agave Fields & Partnerships
The Art and Science of Agave Cultivation
Our story begins in the Highlands of Jalisco, where we grow 100% Blue Weber agave—renowned for its sweetness, complexity, and vibrant character. Why Blue Weber? It’s the gold standard for premium tequila, and we’re uncompromising about using only the best.
Agave cultivation isn’t just farming—it’s a commitment to the land and to the future. Our agave thrives in warm, dry, well-draining soil with plenty of sunshine. It’s a slow process, taking 6 to 8 years for each plant to reach full maturity, but that’s time well spent. Our skilled jimadores hand-select each plant at its peak, ensuring optimal sugar content and flavor.
We’re proud to own our agave fields and nurture long-term partnerships with other local growers who share our values. This allows us to control quality from the very start and to support our local community every step of the way. Our approach is rooted in environmental stewardship—minimal intervention, responsible water use, and a deep respect for the land that sustains us.
Sustainability at Every Step
Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword at Suerte—it’s a way of life. We’re infused with the revitalizing, healing waters of the natural spring that flows from our hometown of Atotonilco El Alto. All our ingredients are locally sourced, and we’re 100% committed to the best quality, conditions, and methods for our product, land, and people.
We invest in eco-friendly practices, from water conservation to responsible harvesting, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the highest-quality tequila made with respect for the environment. As one of our founders puts it: “We’re continuously working to enhance our sustainable practices. By investing in eco-friendly technologies and supporting local farmers, we aim to preserve the land we love and ensure future generations can continue to enjoy the highest-quality tequila made with respect for the environment.”
From Harvest to Oven – The Start of the Tequila Making Process

Harvesting the Agave Piñas
Harvesting agave is an art form, passed down through generations. Our jimadores use a special tool called a coa to skillfully trim away the spiky leaves and reveal the heart of the plant—the piña. Timing is everything; harvest too soon or
too late, and the flavors just aren’t right.
Each piña is carefully selected and prepared for the next stage, ensuring only the finest agave makes it into Suerte Tequila.
Slow Roasting for Flavor
Once harvested, our agave piñas are slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens—hornos—for 52 to 56 hours. This gentle, patient process transforms the agave’s natural starches into rich, fermentable sugars, developing a caramelized sweetness and deepening the flavors that define our tequila.
Why stick with tradition? Because it makes all the difference. Modern methods like autoclaves are faster, but we believe that slow roasting in hornos (ovens) unlocks a complexity and character you just can’t rush.

The Tahona Difference – Crushing for Complexity
100% Tahona-Crushed: Tradition in Every Drop
Tahona. It’s Spanish for delicious. At Suerte, we’re among only 1% of tequila brands labeled TAHONA. To be 100% Tahona means that every piña from the oven gets crushed under a two-ton volcanic stone, slowly and repetitively, for 24 hours to release all the juices. It’s a labor-intensive process, but the reward is a tequila with unparalleled depth and nuance.
Other producers use shredders or roller mills to speed things up, but we’re committed to the tahona method because it preserves the full, rich flavor of the agave. As our founder says, “The stone yields a more distinctive and nuanced agave flavor and, most people agree, a better tequila.”
This is where the magic happens—the moment when tradition, patience, and craftsmanship come together to set Suerte apart.
Fermentation & Distillation – Crafting the Spirit

Open-Air Fermentation
After crushing, the agave juice—along with the fibers—is transferred to open-air fermentation tanks. Here, wild yeasts from the environment work their magic, converting sugars into alcohol and infusing the spirit with unique flavors and complexity.
Fermentation is as much an art as a science. By allowing natural yeasts to guide the process, we capture the essence of our environment and the agave itself.
Double Distillation in Copper
The fermented mash is then double-distilled in copper pot stills—a method that refines the spirit, removes impurities, and creates a tequila that’s remarkably smooth, pure, and agave-forward.
Copper is essential here; it interacts with the spirit to enhance clarity, aroma, and mouthfeel, resulting in a tequila that’s as clean as it is complex.
Resting and Bottling
For our Blanco expression, the tequila is rested in stainless steel for two months before bottling. This crucial step allows the flavors to meld while preserving the crisp, vibrant agave profile.
For those seeking even more depth, our Reposado and Añejo tequilas are aged in oak barrels, developing additional layers of flavor and complexity. (Curious? Explore our full range of expressions here.)
Quality, Authenticity, and the Suerte Difference
Total Process Control – From Field to Bottle
We’re one of only 2 percent of all registered tequila brands that own their dedicated distillery. That means we control every step of the process, from the agave fields to the bottling line. This dedication ensures that every bottle meets our rigorous standards for quality, consistency, and authenticity.
Our team is passionate about what we do, and it shows in every sip. Customer service, product knowledge, and community engagement aren’t just checkboxes for us—they’re the foundation of our business.
Taste the Tradition – Sensory Experience
Let’s talk about what you really care about: the taste. Suerte Blanco greets you with a bouquet of fresh agave sweetness, subtle citrus zest, and a hint of earthiness. On the palate, you’ll find a harmonious blend of velvety agave, lively citrus, and a gentle touch of white pepper. Herbal notes reminiscent of freshly cut grass add refreshing complexity.
The finish? Smooth, lingering, and crisp, with just a whisper of peppery spice. Whether you’re sipping it neat or mixing up a classic margarita or paloma, Suerte Blanco delivers an unforgettable experience.
Our founders love to sip it straight, but we know it shines in cocktails too. Try our elevated margarita or the bright, tangy Suerte Paloma—each one showcases the pure agave taste that makes Suerte special.
Awards, Recognition, and Community
We’re recognized not just for our tequila, but for our commitment to customer service, product knowledge, and supporting the communities we serve. As a USA small business, we believe in giving back through our Buena Suerte to You program.
What began as small acts of kindness has grown into a movement—empowering us to support local charities, contribute to community development, and help those in need. Every bottle you purchase supports this cause, making each sip not just a celebration of tradition but also a celebration of positive impact.
